POSITION PURPOSE:

The Director of Logistics is responsible for oversight, management, and planning of the transportation and fleet management programs at Reddy Ice. Responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with vendors, internal stakeholders and field personnel.  Works with field operations to develop and execute a fleet strategy that meets the needs of the business and consistently improves asset utilization. Leads efforts to maintain and replenish fleet in partnership with internal and external stakeholders so the correct equipment is delivered and maintained as efficiently as possible. Establishes and maintains metrics and leads the creation of SOPs for all transportation and fleet related operations. This role is a key member of the Supply Chain Leadership team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Transportation Management

3rd Party Logistics & Carrier Management – responsible for developing and maintaining relationship with carriers and external transportation partners, source new carriers as required to support cost and service optimization

Manages the external carrier bid process for internal stock transfers to ensure optimal cost and service; systems expert for internally develop bid program and drives system improvement and development

Develop and manage program to leverage 3rd Party Carriers and Reddy Ice fleet to optimize cost and payload for internal stock transfers; Partner with the Routing team for optimal use of internal assets where possible

Owns 3rd party freight cost on the P&L, responsible for developing root cause and ad hoc analysis to explain business drivers and performance

Fleet Program Management

Develop & Maintain fleet planning roadmap and strategy for clear and effective communication of fleet needs that align with the growth and strategy plans of the organization.

Supplier Management – negotiate pricing, terms, sourcing with suppliers as well as assist to resolve escalations of mechanical, billing and other issues.  Collaborates closely with field operations leadership and OCS management on deployment.

Responsible for developing and continuously improving the Reddy Ice fleet and asset management strategy to achieve optimal service and cost to the company. 

Works closely with the commercial and planning team through the SIOP process to ensure assets are planned and in place in lock step with expected customer and internal delivery requirements.

Oversees the administration of the fleet fuel spend and fuel card program by creating and managing KPIs and metrics that minimize and prevent fraud, optimize fuel spend efficiency, and make refueling as easy and seamless as possible for Reddy Ice Field Operations team members

Responsible for the purchase order approval and spending control process for all fleet related purchases.  Ensure spend expectations match actual spend and is reconciled with accounting weekly. 

Develops processes for and ensures timely handling and administration of all paperwork, payments for citations, fines, violations, invoices, permits, tags, registrations, inspections, and other administrative fees.

Determines equipment redeployment and delivery plans by working closely with Regional Logistics Managers and ensures those plans are executed correctly by both Reddy Ice and external vendors.

Establish criteria and process to determine fleet needs for HD (heavy duty), LD (light duty), and MHE (material handling equipment).

Partners with accounting and suppliers to ensure billing accuracy.

Manages vehicle acquisitions and dispositions (including solicitation of quotes, collection of payment, toll tag deactivations, and title transfers), and integrates new equipment into the Reddy Ice fleet.

Owns fleet cost on the P&L, responsible for developing root cause and ad hoc analysis to explain business drivers and performance

Distribution Field Support & Strategy

Primary Supply Chain contact and owner for all field distribution and transportation related support programs.

Driver reimbursement program management – owns the management and administration of the drive reimbursement program to support the field

Safety and Compliance support – works alongside the safety and compliance teams to align communication and support for the field

Transportation Cost & Performance Metrics

Develop Metrics and Reports to effectively communicate vendor and carrier performance on cost and service to leadership. Leverage aligned reports and metrics to continuous improvement and accountability with our suppliers and with internal stakeholders.

Establishes and maintains metrics on all fleet-related platforms and supplier databases and provides regular measurement and reporting to leadership. Provides recommended action plans to drive best practices and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement.

Distribution Process Development and Optimization

Develops processes for and ensures timely handling and administration of all paperwork, payments for citations, fines, violations, invoices, permits, tags, registrations, inspections, and other administrative fees.

Leads development process with IT, Ops Leadership, and Regional Logistics Managers to create and maintain a detailed inventory of the fleet by developing a database and processes to track vehicle mileage, vehicle history, vehicle movement/location, and other pertinent vehicle information.

Leads the creation and improvement of fleet-related processes, best practices, and SOP’s.

 Utilize Reddy Ice Way to improve all aspects of Transportation and Fleet Operations Assume other duties and responsibilities required or assigned by management. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Typical office environment, generally sedentary position using computers, calculators, phones, and other office equipment. This position works in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment. The ability to manage stress, build professional and collaborative relationships, and reason through complex business situations is essential. Weekend and evening work may also be required. A valid driver’s license and acceptable MVR is required due to this position’s minimal travel requirements.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 10+ years of experience managing fleet or logistics operations
  • 3+ years of demonstrated project management skills
  • Ability to effectively lead and influence change without authority
  • Exceptional ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, peers, project teams, and field personnel
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Track record of strong organizational skills and follow-through
